Reputed to be where Sri Lanka?s largest ever Alexandrite was discovered, the estate is located in a gem mining area famous for alexandrite, sapphire, cat?s eye and ruby. Digging for gems still occurs on a small part of the property. The estate has been cultivated since the 1880s, initially producing citronella and also at various times tea. The original plantation bungalow was built by the founder of the plantation for his grandson and was completed around end 1930s. After a fire in 1989 the bungalow restored/rebuilt to its present state by the 4th generation owner and a two-storey extension was completed in 2009.
